Renewal of Tohlop TV Studios

In total, four new observatories were converted into the renovated TV center, four existing observatories, four studio floors and a technical room were renewed. In addition to HD capability, the basic idea of the renewal was the versatility and adaptability of the premises to suit different productions.

Riedel MediorNet was installed next to the old HD video matrix. Riedel MediorNet handles the routing of signals between the different modes of the entire TV center. Each monitor and studio has a MediorNet node or multiple nodes. They handle video, audio, Ethernet, RS control, command, and GPI routing. No new video or audio cables were wired between the premises, only fiber optics and CAT cables.

Riedel RockNet audio network is also integrated into the MediorNet. It acts as stage boxes and sound interfaces for studio floors and observatories. New SSL sound tables were acquired for audio monitoring stations. They directly control the microphone input levels of RockNet’s stageboxes. All channels are freely routable to any output. In this way, all the audio made in the house is also connected to a single, house-wide matrix. Intercom is implemented with the Riedel Artist intercom matrix and the Acrobat wireless intercom.

The ten studio cameras are Sony’s HSC-300 series. CCUs with digital triax connections can be connected to any studio floor. The two large observatories have a Sony MVS-7000X image mixer and the monitor walls are also implemented with Sony monitors.

Multi-functionality and modularity for different productions is enabled by L-S-B’s Virtual Studio Manager (VSM) control system. It handles the settings of different productions flexibly at one touch of a button. For example, matrix routing, contents of multi-image walls, red lights in cameras, studio and observatory spaces, and space reservations. All modes have VSM control capability, however, so that the control panel for each mode is configured to control only state and production specific settings.
