TV Tools

Studios

TV Tools implemented Finland’s first HD studio for FilmWorks, nowadays NEP Finland in Pasila. The studio was refurbished with almost every cable and piece of furniture.

At the core of the system is Evertz’s Xenon 128 × 128 matrix frame, which is furnished to a size of 96 × 96. The matrix output cards are equipped with X-Link technology, which seamlessly integrates Evertz’s VIP-X multifunction dividers into the matrix. No more additional outputs are needed for monitoring – but in addition to the physical 96 outputs of the matrix – any source in the matrix can be routed to the monitors of the multi-image dividers. For example, in this system, there are 96 monitoring outputs, besides the normal 96 outputs.

Also, all other “Glue” is from Evertz. Framesynchrot, (De) -Embeders, Up-Down-Cross Converters, Keyers, Splitter Amplifiers… Studio was cableed to six HD Studio cameras.

As an extension, two 4-channel EVS XS SD / HD studio servers were installed in the studio, which act as recorders and repeaters for the needs of the studio and the broadcasting unit built into it.

EVS servers handle the ingestion of direct feeds and, if necessary, direct streaming to the hard disk surface of the house’s five FinalCutPro editors, Apple’s XSAN, EVS’s own “Nearline” server, or even transcoding to the desired format. When FinalCut sees the file on its hard drive, post-processing can begin immediately while the recording is still in progress. EVS’s advanced playlist features are used e.g. the inserts of the studio productions and the TV channel playout. When FinalCut transfers the finished output back to the server, playback can begin as soon as the first second is available on the server.

The core of the audio unit is the CalRec Zeta sound mixer. The modular, high-performance and backupped core is equipped with AES / EBU and analog I / Os. All channels have full DSP capabilities and versatile routing. The Zeta console has 24 double layer faders on the surface. The mixer can simultaneously produce 5.1, stereo or mono from any output or monitoring. The audio control room is well acoustic and the listening built with adjusted Genelec 8240 and 7270 DSP speakers. Genelec’s DSP speakers can each be saved with their own settings, EQ’s and delays, allowing for the most natural listening possible.

The look of the studio is finished with walnut furniture and acoustics.
